"The Company Rules": #4, Last Stand

Last Stand

Three Trooper teams gang-up on a single trooper team.  The defender has to roll each turn for arrival of an evacuation dropship.  Defender sets up, attackers choose where to start, at least 12" away, so on my 2x2' board that means the edge.

Crustie troopers dig in and wait
But not for long
Bronx Drop Legion advance
Pow! First blood to the Crusties
Legion troopers sneak along the side
While one team advances and occupies the Crustie attention
More sneaking
And more
Crusties and Legion trade wounds, fatally for one Legionnaire
Time to shoot a lot more
More wounds
This time the Crusties notice the sneakers and tag them too
The flanking Legion team gets in posiiton ready to fire
The team in the middle is getting shot up badly
Charge! one of the flankers rushes forwards into better position
Only to be shot up badly
All Legion teams now have some wounded
Blammo! Dead crustie, Legionnaires rally
The middle team loses more Legionnaires, pushing them back
Start of the turn, wounds on all sides
My favourite wound marker, smoking boots and helmet only remain.  Legionnaires go defensive (CP orders)
Things are not looking good for the Legionnaires
Legionnaire fire starts to tell, more wounded crusties
While the flanking team provides cover fire
Its time to exploit those CP orders and charge forwards
To good effect, another Crustie goes down while the remainder are heavily wounded
The assault pays off, another crustie down - Where is that Dropship! (rolled each turn, so far all failed)
Still no dropship!, Legionnaires press their advantage and gun down the remaining Crustie

A fun Last Stand game, it really could have gone both ways as the Legionnaires lost a lot of men.  Ah, fickle dice, no dropship to bail out the Crusties, or perhaps the pilot saw the hot drop zone and bailed...
On to more carnage!

"The Company Rules": #3 Fauna Assault

Fauna Assault... ...or Bug Stompa!

Two troopers must wipe out the Queen bug, or be wiped out by Bugs.  Queen plus guards start in the center, troopers can start at any board edge.  Queen must just get off the board to win.  Bug reinforcements are random appearance with randomized board location (bug holes as previous scenario)

Queen, eggs and Warriors - all old Peter Pig from their ex-scifi line.  the Bugs were called Phugs
Troopers appear on the horizon (old Lazerburn figs)

Bugs boil out of a hole in front of a trooper team
KaSplat! most bugs squished
In the center the other team hustles towards the queen, who promptly flees
(oops ,got this sideways), Troopers finish off the last bug as it charges into melee
In the middle the Troopers only succeed in winging a Warrior
More workers appear to relieve pressure on the Queen
Charge!  Troopers get their move on
Missiles out.
The charging Troopers manage to clear one of the Queens bodyguard warriors leaving the queen open to attack next turn
Next turn the queen is two moves off the board edge, its do or die time for the troopers, so, Fire!
Get on the hill and Fire!
The Queen is winged but not out, next turn she could be off the board
Troopers at the back mop up stragglers
Boom!  The heavy weapons trooper ranges on the exposed, wounded queen and lights her up
The Troopers love the smell of frying bug in the morning as plasma hoses down the Queen... ...only inches from victory

A good victory for the Troopers (at last!), no messing with tactics. I hustled to target the queen and it worked.  This plan probably would have gone bad had the Queen received one or more warrior reinforcement groups instead of just workers.

"The Company Rules": #2 Fauna Encounter

... Or "Get to tha' Dropship"

A trooper team is stranded in bug country, they must fight their way out to a waiting dropship, meanwhile the bugs aint happy!

Trooper team on RHS, dropship LHS.  The mounds are bug-holes.  Bugs arrival is based on dice roll, with location roll for mound of arrival (D6 1-3 bottom R to L, 4-6 top L to R)
This is going to be a walk in the park!
Ulp,maybe not.  Worker bugs boil out of a hole nearby
 Blam, Blam, Blam, dead bugs
 Watch out, they're behind you...
Nah, we aint bothered (troopers trying to advance forwards)
Hey, they are close, maybe we should stop and shoot
Zoink! Whirl! Bleep!, one of them got through
 Don't worry we'll get it
The workers gnaw at the leg of a trooper (a single wound in combat)
Meanwhile,  Warriors (bigger, tougher, more combat-focused) appear in front of the troopers
Its looking a mighty long way to the dropship, especially with more bugs appearing in the way
Help! Troopers opt to to shoot it out, staying put, enabling the Bugs to swarm
 Y-Racks, expand all missiles boys!
Missiles out (markers by Peter Pig)
Boom, Crack, Splat!  Some wounds and one dead bug
Om Nom Nom Nom.  Warriors crunch up a couple of troopers
Last Stand!  Remaing Troopers opt to shoot it out
More bugs appear on the horizon
Shooting not too bad, combat not too bad either
Last Stand, again!  More Warriors appear, this time right on top of the remaining troopers
Full Auto, troopers shoot with everything
To no avail, they are swarmed by warriors
 CHOMP!  Game over man
The tropers started out OK, but I kept them static too long, allowing the bug numbers to build up.  I should have kept them moving, running and gunning instead of trying to be too cute with tactics.

Some not great shots here, I'm using my old camera and between trying to capture in-game shots and not good enough light for no-flash photos the resolution is suffering.

So, on to the next game: Fauna Assault

In which we find out why the bugs fought so hard...  ...a bug nest right around the corner
